Valve is designed to fit into elbows and couplings that have a 2-inch inner diameter. The opening for the hose to go into has a 1-1/2-inch inner diameter, and the widest diagonal section has a 2.5-inch outer diameter. To allow the on/off switch on the end of the vacuum hose to function properly, low voltage wire should be run from the valve to the low voltage leads on any central vacuum. This is an excellent part to extend your whole house vacuum system in places like Garage, utility rooms, bathroom, workshops, etc.
Fits many models including:
Aggresor, AirVac, Astrovac, Beam, Black & Decker, Broan, Brute, Budd, Cana-Vac, Centralux, Cirrus, CV International, Dirt Devil, DrainVac, DuoVac, DustCare, Easy-Flo, Electrolux, Eureka, Fasco, Filtex, Fridgidaire, Hayden, HoneyWell, Hoover, Imperium, Kenmore, MD, Nadair, NuTone, Patton, PowerStar, Pullman-Holt, PurVac, Riccar, Roya, lSequoia, Signature, Simplicity, Smart, VacuFlow, VacuMaid, ValetVent-A-Vac, Walvac, Whirlpool, Zenex, etc
Product Overview: Utility Valve for Central Vacuum Systems
This utility valve is a specialized inlet port component engineered for integration into exposed piping runs or directly onto the central vacuum power unit itself. It serves as a dedicated access point for connecting a vacuum hose, eliminating the need for traditional in-wall receptacles in certain environments.
Key Features & Technical Specifications
- Direct-Mount Design: The valve's primary innovation is its ability to be installed without a separate wall plate or electrical box. It is secured directly onto the exposed central vacuum pipe (typically 2-inch PVC or ABS) or onto a designated port on the vacuum power unit.
- Application-Specific: Engineered for durability in demanding, non-residential spaces within a home or facility.
- Simplified Installation: The "no mounting plate required" feature significantly reduces installation time, complexity, and material cost. It involves cutting into the pipe run, applying appropriate adhesive (for PVC/ABS), and securing the valve, or attaching it via a threaded or quick-connect fitting to the power unit.
- Standard Valve Mechanism: Presumably incorporates a standard internal damper that opens automatically upon hose insertion and seals shut upon removal to maintain system suction and prevent debris from escaping.
Primary Applications & Ideal Use Cases
This valve is explicitly designed for utilitarian spaces where aesthetics are secondary to functionality and ruggedness. Its design makes it most common in:
- Workshops: Provides a robust vacuum connection for cleaning up sawdust, metal shavings, and other workshop debris directly at the source.
- Garages: Ideal for cleaning vehicles, workbenches, and floors, handling dirt, leaves, and granular materials common in garage environments.
- Utility Rooms & Basements: Offers a convenient clean-up point for laundry areas, mechanical rooms, or unfinished basement spaces where built-in wall receptacles may not be present or practical.
- Direct Power Unit Attachment: Mounting the valve directly on the central vacuum power unit (often located in a garage, basement, or utility room) creates a "central station" for quick clean-up around the unit itself or for attaching specialized tools.
Comparative Advantages
- Cost-Effective: Lower material and installation cost compared to installing a finished in-wall receptacle with electrical wiring for a low-voltage signal.
- Durability: Less prone to damage than decorative in-wall plates in high-traffic, rough-use areas.
- Flexibility: Can be easily added to an existing pipe run at any point without the need for complex wall framing or finishing work.
- Immediate Access: When installed on the power unit, it ensures a vacuum port is always available at the system's core location.
Installation & Compatibility Notes
- Pipe Compatibility: Confirm the valve's connection size (standard is for 2-inch nominal pipe) and ensure compatibility with your system's pipe material (PVC or ABS).
- Power Unit Compatibility: If attaching to the power unit, verify that the unit has a standard spare port or the appropriate threading for the valve.
- Location Planning: When installing on an exposed pipe run, choose a location that provides optimal hose reach for the intended clean-up area while ensuring the pipe is securely supported.
- Professional Recommendation: While simpler than in-wall installation, proper sealing and securing of the valve are critical to prevent air leaks, which would significantly reduce system performance. Consultation with or installation by a central vacuum specialist is advised.
Conclusion
This Utility Valve represents a practical and efficient solution for extending central vacuum functionality to utilitarian spaces. Its direct-mount, no-plate design makes it an economical, durable, and straightforward choice for garages, workshops, basements, and utility rooms. It is an essential component for homeowners or professionals seeking to maximize the utility and convenience of their central vacuum system in areas where traditional installed receptacles are unnecessary or impractical. For optimal performance and reliability, ensure the valve is compatible with your specific system's piping and is installed with precision to maintain airtight integrity.
