How to Make this switch work with vacuums having single speed?

Connect cord and motor black wires to the terminals with leads. The diode jumps from the other terminal to run the motor at the low speed.

Can some one show how the diode is connected for power input? I want to be sure of the input wiring. A simple lone sketch will be helpful.
