My roller seems OK. I did smell the rubber heat up as the friction on the belt was happening, I thought the fringe of the rug may have caught in the roller, holding it back from rotating making the belt freeze while the motor spinning on the belt wore it down. i wasn’t vacuuming myself, but asked the person who was if the fringe got stuck. She said no. i saw one small piece of wool fringe in the roller brush but no tangle of threads, and the roller rotated easily in its cradle. Nothing looked different inside the vacuum. There was no sign of bending, or breakage. Maybe i could try it again with a new belt and make sure the vacuum doesn’t meet up with the fringe on the carpet. I could use another attachment to vacuum the edges of the rugs with fringe. when the vacuum works it works very well on my thicker rugs, which is why I’d like to give it another try.
