Yes. The metal band activates it.

This is the answer to your comment: "I currently have a Galaxie central vac. The central vac goes on automatically when I plug the hose into the wall. I don’t need any power attachments, just suction and to go on when plug into the wall. Just need a basic one for my garage outlet. Thanks."
