How does this attach to my vacuum. I can't seem to find a way to detach the existing part from the floor part. It detaches easily from the body.

I had the same problem. There are two tabs on the back tip side. Squeeze those and pull. It helps a lot to have the vacuum in the "bent" position (not standing up).
